Procedures Depicted: Facial Reconstruction
A 39 year old female had her nose significantly injured by a pit bull terrier. This was a complex injury with exposure to the cartilaginous tissue of the bridge of the nose, which required multiple surgeries. There was no evidence of underlying bone fracture. In the initial surgery, Dr. Janssen repaired the laceration of the left lower lateral cartilage, and performed a composite graft from ear to nose, and a forehead flap to nose surgery. Two weeks later, the patient had the forehead flap divided and inset. Ten months after, Dr. Janssen performed surgery to trim down the nose tip and forehead flap scar. Finally, four months later, Dr. Janssen performed the final surgery for excision of her scar, debulking of the nasal flap, intermediate layered closure, and a laser peel of the forehead and left side of her nose.
