VNUS Treatments at Fox Valley Plastic Surgery in Wisconsin

The VNUS closure procedure is performed on an outpatient basis at our Renaissance Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Using ultrasound, Dr. Janssen positions the tiny Closure Catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin, delivering radio-frequency (RF) energy to the vein wall. The RF energy heats collagen around the vein, causing the wall to shrink and the vein to close. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood reroutes to other healthy veins in your body.

The VNUS procedure is less invasive than vein stripping. Incisions are made in the groin and calf, and a catheter is threaded through the diseased vein, to pull the vein out of the leg. With the Closure procedure, only one small puncture is made at the insertion site and the vein is then closed and left in place. This approach eliminates pain and bruising that is associated with vein stripping surgery.

Patients experience minimal to no scarring, bruising or swelling following the procedure and typically resume normal activities within one day.
