FAQs about IPL Hair Removal
Spring is a great time to get your legs, arm pits and bikini line hair-free for summer. Kristin Shefchik, plastic surgical nurse, and Kathleen Klienhans, aesthetician, have prepared the following responses to some frequently asked questions.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: There are three growth phases for hair: anagen (active growth), catagen (regression) and telogen (resting phase when the hair is being shed in preparation for new hair growth). As with any type of light-based hair reduction, the treatment is only effective on follicles in the anlagen phase. Therefore, the treatment will require several procedures to remove all follicles.
Q: Are there any products I should avoid putting on my skin before treatment?
A: Do not use any lotions on your skin the day of your IPL treatment. For the facial area, avoid using topical acne medications 7 days prior to treatment.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Our system includes the newest in Pulsed Light technology. They have self-cooling tips that protect the surrounding skin while allowing the light to penetrate to the hair follicle. The procedure feels like the snap of a rubber band on the skin.
